Apr 26, 2016 I have an exe setup file. I want to make it compatible with Mac OS. Is there is any way through which we can convert an EXE to DMG, APP or a Jar? The simple answer is to install software on a Macintosh OS you must recompile it down to a.dmg file. For java 7 and 8 you need to make another app to run and compatible with. I did it on my way. Here’s how to convert a DMG file into an ISO file that can be mounted on a Windows PC. First head over to this website and grab yourself a copy of dmg2img by clicking on the win32 binary link. Once the file has downloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the file, and select extract all from the context menu.
Pre-Requisites –
- The .dmg File of the App you want to install. Download & Save the .dmg file in any folder.
- Non-Guest User account access in Mac OS X (Any User account with app-install permissions or Administrator account).
- In our Example, We will be using the Opera browser .dmg file to demonstrate the installation process.
Steps to Install .dmg Apps in Mac OS X –
- Navigate to your .dmg file in Finder and double-Click on it.
- Now, Depending upon the source from where the app was obtained, OS X may start the installation process or it might block the installation of App with the error “unidentified developer” . Click here for solution to “unidentified error” for your .dmg app .
- If you didn’t get the error, You will see an installer / or the app will install its image onto your homescreen (.dmg are basically app image files).
- Now, you’ll see the App Image (with a disc type icon) on to your Homescreen on Mac as show below –App After its Dmg File installedInstalling the Dmg file doesn’t mean its installed, You will need to drag the App Icon image to the “Applications” folder for it to function properly.
- Dragging App Icon to Applications Folder – Launch the App by double clicking the App Image icon. It will open a window as shown in the image below-Drag App Icon on to the Applications FolderNow Click and drag the App Icon on to the “Applications” folder. i.e from Position 1. to Position 2. in the above image.
- Once you drag the Application App Image icon on to the Applications folder, it will be installed & will now be visible inside the Applications folder as shown below –If you see the your App Icon without disk image background , You have installed the .dmg app successfully! .
- Simply Double-click the App Icon inside the Applications folder to launch your Application program.
So, this is one of the most simple methods to install .dmg application programs on Mac OS X. Some apps may require a further tweaking but this will get the job done 99 times. If you face any issues or encounter any problems feel free to comment.
Windows 10 got the ability to clear temporary files automatically in a recent build. Starting with build 15014, a new option appeared in Settings. Here is how you can use it.

To clear temporary files automatically in Windows 10, you need to enable the new option. Open Settings and go to System -> Storage. There, you will find the option named 'Storage Sense'. Enable it and you are done.
But the built-in auto cleanup feature is new to Creators Update. Files stored in Recycle Bin for more than 30 days will be deleted for example as part of this cleanup.
The user can customize this behavior. To do this, click the link 'Change how we free up space' under the switch.
The related page will be opened:
There, you'll see two options. One is Delete temporary files that my apps aren't using.
It is a good idea to keep this turned on. Temporary files are created by various Windows services, installed apps and tools. Temporary files can be safely deleted after the process which has created them has quit. However, this does not happen often, so the system temporary directory or the app's temp directory continues to store them and fills your disk drive with junk. When this option is enabled, Windows will delete them automatically and keep you drive clean besides saving your disk space.
If you do not have Windows 10 Creators Update installed yet, it is not a problem. Windows ships with a tool to clean up files called Disk Cleanup. It can be automated using Task Scheduler or by simply creating special shortcuts to cleanmgr.exe with various switches. We have covered this extensively at Winaero.
There are two ways to clean up your temp directory automatically, which can be used in previous releases of Windows 10 too. Check out these articles:
- Clear Temp Directory on Startup with Disk Cleanup. It explains to clean up the temp directory automatically in Windows 10 using the built-in Disk Cleanup tool (cleanmgr.exe).
- Clean up temp directory automatically in Windows 10. It shows how to clean up temporary files with a simple batch file which cleans your Temp folder every time you start your PC.
The other option is Delete files that have been in the recycle bin for over 30 days. As is obvious from its name, it will clear your Recycle Bin automatically, so deleted files won't grow in size. This is very useful.
If you are running a Windows 10 version without this feature, you still empty Recycle Bin automatically. The following article describes the process:
Using the instructions in that article, you will be able to create a Scheduled Task which calls a special PowerShell command to clean up the Recycle Bin. It is a nice alternative to this new feature.
The native ability to remove temporary files automatically is one of the best improvements to the built-in maintenance tools in Windows 10. Once you enable this feature, you can finally forget about the existence of the temp folder and its contents.
We hope Microsoft extends this to clean up Windows Update related files too in the future such as files superseded by newer versions and downloaded updates in the Software Distribution folder.
